Ms. Genie Lewis

Ms. Genie serves as school counselor at Birney and Beryl Schools under an elementary school counseling called Project PAL. She holds a master's of social work from California State University Long Beach as well as a master's in health care administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She is currently studying to become a licensed social worker under the supervision of Claire Towle, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.

Prior to becoming a school counselor in 2004, Ms. Lewis worked for over twenty-five years in the fields of community heath care, public health, managed care, quality management, accreditation and health professional recruitment and training. She is a former surveyor for the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA).

Ms. Genie grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended college at George Washington University. She has lived in many parts of the country, including the Washington, D.C. area, Alabama, Michigan, Connecticut and the Eastern Shore of Maryland prior to moving to California in 1996.

As a social work student, Ms. Genie prepared her thesis on risk factors of Redondo Beach youth. She is interested in supporting the development caring community-wide programs in Redondo Beach that focus on positive youth development, parenting, after-school enrichment, peacemaking, career development and acceptance of differences.

Ms. Genie currently serves as President of the Redondo Beach Council PTA and is a former president of the Madison Elementary School PTA. At Madison, she has coordinated a variety of school-wide programs, including assemblies, family fun nights, reading nights at the library, career days and multicultural festivals. Ms. Genie also serves as a volunteer for the Gathering Place and is a representative for the Redondo Beach Teachers Association (RBTA).

Ms. Genie lives with her husband, Darryl and two children, Jasmine and Anthony, who attend Madison and Adams schools in Redondo Beach.
