My name is Julee Loorya. My first name is spelled Julee because my mom's name is Judy and my dad's name is Lee they put the two together and ended up with my name. My last name in pronounced Lori with a long A sound at the end. I grew up right here in the wonderful beach community of Redondo Beach in sunny Southern California and am a partial product of the Redondo Beach Unified School District. I was raised in a large Italian family and have two younger brothers and a younger sister. We grew up in a small house with a lot of love and two parents who spent their lives trying to do what was best for us... I couldn't have asked for anything more!
After graduating from Redondo Union High School, I was off to the University of California at Santa Barbara where I earned a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in education and met my husband, Matt. After graduating I went straight into my credential program at Chapman University and moved up to Northern California where I began my teaching career in 1999. Since 1999, I have taught Kindergarten, First, Second, Fourth, and Fifth and have enjoyed all of them for different reasons. After a few years of teaching up north, my husband and I moved back to Redondo Beach and I began teaching at Birney. I then went back to school at Chapman University and earned my Masters of Arts in Education with an emphasis in curriculum design and instruction. I love teaching and cannot think of any other job that I would rather do! I truly believe in what I am doing and that educating children to be good people involves a partnership between the parents, students, teachers, and school community. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr. "Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education." I hope that when students leave my classroom not only will they have a passion for learning but that they will be better people too.
When I am not teaching, I love hanging out with my husband, spending time with my family and friends... especially my niece and nephew, exercising, lying in the sun and reading a good book, traveling, and hanging out with my two dogs (Bella and Sophia).
Birney truly is an amazing community of wonderful people and I feel very blessed to be a part of it!
