School Dress Standards

In cooperation with teachers, students, parents/guardians, community members and district representatives, the pricipal or designee shall establish and each semester shall review school rules which reflect board policy and administrative regulations governing student dress and grooming. The guidelines apply to attendance at school and all school activities and events.

Dress standards at Jefferson comply with the Redondo Beach Unified School District policy stated above and are based on common sense and safety. Loosely fitting footwear, high heels, open-toed or open-healed shoes and sandals are hazardous and may not be worn. Tennis shoes are strongly recommended as everyday wear to ensure safe footing during physical education periods and recess times. Children are expected to wear their shoes tied. Other clothing should be safe, comfortable, adequately conceal undergarments and exhibit no writing that would be offensive to others at school. Too tight or short clothing, bare midriffs and backless tops are not allowed. No gang attire is allowed. Oversized, baggy pants (and those two or more inches too large in the waist or too long), frayed hems, hats, bandannas, oversized t-shirts and shoelaces, wallet chains and loose fitting shoes are not allowed at Jefferson. Inappropriately dressed students will be counseled and sent home in order to change clothes and dress properly for school.

Please be aware of what your children are wearing to school daily to ensure that their clothing adheres to Jefferson's dress code. Appropriate dress helps to remind students that they are at school and are to behave accordingly! We greatly appreciate your support in maintaining our dress code.
