Help Wanted!
There are many ways to help our school, including volunteer opportunities
in class and at home. Here's where we're looking for assistance
at the moment.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU FILL OUT THE PTA VOLUNTEER
FORM IN YOUR BACK-TO-SCHOOL PACKET!
Please note that parents who wish to volunteer on
the school campus MUST have a cleared TB skin test (Mantoux test)
prior to working at the school. This test can be performed
by your family doctor. You may collect the necessary paperwork
from the school office. Please return the paperwork with confirmation
of your test results to the school office BEFORE volunteering at
the school.
MADISON SCHOOL PTA 2008-2009
EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS
AN OPEN PLEA AND INVITATION TO GET ON (the) BOARD!
By Sybilla Turner, PTA Parliamentarian
Greetings Madison families, the PTA board elections are coming
up. We already have nominees in a few key positions but there is
an urgent need for some others. Yes, the board elections are truly
voted on. Anyone who is a PTA general member may seek the nomination
for any board position they may feel qualified to fill. Nominations
will be announced at Open House on May 22nd. We will also entertain
accepting nominations from the floor if there are any and the vote
will be taken that night. Your PTA board really needs your help!!!!!
Listed here are the offices and proposed nominees for those offices.
Special attention has been made to those needing an immediate nominee.
Should you be interested in any board position contact any board
member or me by email at unicorn61@roadrunner.com
to let me know how you wish to be of service to your school. And
don’t be concerned about the time commitment required. It
just takes a few hours a month to help Madison Elementary PTA continue
to supply the great assemblies, field trips, and special activities
that our children have come to enjoy and count on us to provide.

Student Drop-off Service
Volunteers are needed to staff the new student drop-off lane on
Nelson Ave between 7:50 and 8:15 a.m., to help ease the traffic
situation around the school. Duties involve putting out the
cones on the street, standing curbside waiting to open car doors
and assisting children to the sidewalk. All families are asked
to volunteer 2-3 mornings per year to help make this system work.
If you have questions or can offer to volunteer, please contact
Cyndi Wicks.
Hands On Art
Docents are parent volunteers who attend training workshops for
each project and then lead the project in the classroom. Besides
demonstrating the project techniques, they use books, pictures and
music to provide background information about the project and enhance
the children's art experience. Assistants are also parent
volunteers and they aid the docents in the classroom, helping them
to set up and carry out the projects.
For full details about the Hands On Art program, please visit the
Hands On Art page.
Nutrition Education
Parent docents are needed in the classrooms to provide information
on healthy eating, and conduct taste tests of healthy food samples,
as part of the Live Well Kids program.
For full details about the Live Well Kids program, please visit
the Nutrition Education page.
In The Classroom
Parents are welcome to volunteer in their child's classroom.
To find out what volunteer opportunities there are in your child's
class, please talk to your child's teacher. She/He may need
occasional help in class or require some preparatory work that can
be done at home.
Please schedule your volunteer periods in advance
with your child's teacher so that she/he may make any necessary
adjustments to their lesson plans.
Room Parents
If you would like to offer to be the Room Parent for
your child's class, please contact Cyndi
Wicks. Room parents liaise with Madison PTA and coordinate
occasional volunteer activities in your child's class.
General PTA
If you are interested in volunteering for any PTA activities in
general, please contact the PTA President, Angela Puckett, at mamapuckett@verizon.net
