WASHINGTON SCHOOL

General Information

Washington Elementary School, home of the Explorers, is located in north Redondo Beach and is one of twelve schools in the Redondo Beach Unified School District. We boast a multi-ethnic population of approximately 600 students in grades kindergarten through fifth, including special education day classes. Our staff includes a dedicated crew of 63 who serve our students in the classrooms, in the cafeteria, in the office and on the school grounds. Our Instructional Program includes services for gifted, special education, and limited English proficient students.

Our teaching philosophy........

Our staff believes that all students are capable of learning, collaboratively and independently, to become responsible self-motivated individuals. To this end, we seek to provide a welcoming, supportive and safe environment in which students will thrive, and to train ourselves with the skills and knowledge that are necessary in guiding our students. Washington teachers have had years of experience in developing thematic teaching units that make the instructional day interesting and meaningful for students. Our teachers work collaboratively to provide a consistent program of instruction across all grade levels. They are continuously receiving training in all academic areas as well as in non-academic areas such as conflict resolution strategies, first aid & CPR.

From The Principal

Welcome to Washington Elementary School, Home of the Explorers.

My name is Nino Torres, I am principal of this great school where we believe that every child can learn and succeed.

We have started a new year with a few changes both in our programs and our staff. We are happy to welcome Ms. Vega, our Developmental kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Garcia in 1st Grade, Ms. Bassine in 2nd grade, Mrs. Huff and Mrs. Lem in 4th grade and Ms. Boone in our Resource Center. Washington is now a fully included school. This means we no longer have Special Day classes; all of our students are in general education classes. What a great opportunity for out teachers and students to work together and further show what an awesome team we have here at Washington.

The new program I referred to earlier is our HOSTS program. HOSTS stands for Helping One Student to Succeed, this is our mentoring program to help all of our students to succeed and get the most from their school experience.

I am looking forward to another great year as we continue to go from good to great.

GO EXPLORERS!!!!!
